Things to do on Zakynthos

Capital - Zakynthos

The capital Zakynthos is a harbor city and the vibrant center of the island. You can see Venetian styled architecture all around. All the buildings got destroyed in an earthquake 1953 but were rebuilt piece by piece afterwards.

Blue Grotto

The whole way from Agios Nikolaos up to Cape Skinari you can discover a breathtaking system of tunnels and caves along the coastline. The biggest of those caves is Kianon and awaits with huge stalactites hanging from the ceiling and incredible blue water to swim in. If you want to go diving inside of the caves you can simply book one of the diving tours. We recommend some diving specialist further down. Another option is to visit the grottoes by boat

Navaglio - Shipwreck Beach

One of the most popular beaches in whole Greece is located in the northwest of the island and just about 15 minutes by car from our Villa Zakynthos – shipwreck beach. In 1980 a ship of smugglers with an illegal freight of cigarettes ran ground on this beach. Since this day the ship rots and rusts on this beach and is a beloved sight for tourist from all over the world. Good to know: You have to visit the beach by boat.

Limnionas Beach

Another gorgeous beach is Limnionas beach, located in a tiny bay on the west coast of Zakynthos. Getting there is quite the trip, even by boat, but is definitely worth the struggle. You get there by boat, passing the small bay, that kinda looks like the fjords in Norway. The water here presents itself in the brightest blue colors that washes onto the white pebble beach. For tanning we recommend getting there early and enjoy the sun loungers on one of the two platforms. If you like fish or seafood, you should definitely give the restaurant there a try.

Hot Springs in Xigia

Another great place to visit is Xigia and the hot springs there. Xigia is located northeast on Zakynthos and has two beautiful beaches to offer. One with a typical wide beach and tropical colors, the other with hot springs in a cave for relaxing hours. The sulfur in hot springs make them so healthy and healing, even if you have to get used to the smell at first.

Diving in Zakynthos

Diving on Zakynthos is quite popular and a lot of the places are unreachable if you do not go by boat. If you are interested in a diving course, boat trip or something of that kind just hit up one of the following diving bases:

Scuba Dive Tours at Divers Paradise cost about 60€ for beginners, take about 4 hours with theory, diving lesson in a pool and one open-water dive in up to 8m deep water included.

A 4-5 day diving course with Turtle Beach is around 355€ all included (equipment, boat tour, logbook, certificate and test fee) and is suitable from an age of 10.
